I have a job for you. Do you know James Marshall? He is operating Sutter's mill, a big sawmill not far from here. He told me that he could use a hand. You seem like you might be the right person for that. This Quest is an event in celebration of the start of the Big Gold Rush on the 24th January 1848. You can accept this quest till 29th January.

All gold nuggets have already been picked up off the ground. Still, there must be something left in the riverbeds.There is a technique called panning. Get a pan and search the near riverbeds before the Forty-Niners have emptied them. A pan is a crafting component of the blacksmith profession. If you are not a blacksmith, have a look on a town market. You should be able to buy one there.

All of the workers at my mill have left to seek out gold of their own. They are all rich now and I am penniless. This is a disaster. I will have to close the sawmill down unless someone saws the piles and piles of wood that have been left behind. Tomorrow, the bailiffs will come and take my mill away from me.
